Enrichment Activities

Aspiring Leaders Institute:

This program was offered to me by my county.  It was a small cohort of teachers who have aspirations of working in leadership positions.  We had to be currently enrolled in a leadership program and recommended by our administrators for the program.  We were required to read John Maxwell’s book The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership.  In addition we were given various articles to read and discuss in class each week.  We met 15 times throughout the 2008-2009 school year as we discussed and reflected on various aspects of leadership.  We had various guest speakers to talk with us about their experiences as well what their jobs entailed.  We looked at job descriptions of different levels of leadership and discussed positions that interested us most while taking inventory of what we felt we were weak in as well as what our strengths were.  It was a very beneficial experience.  We did generate an additional reading list that we could continue to read and study as we pursued carriers in leadership.

Professional Development for Rural County Middle School:

I was asked to come lead a professional development for Rural County Middle School.  I worked with teachers to learn how to use the data generated from the CRCT as well as benchmark exams.  I helped them look for trends in individual classrooms, by teacher, and by grade level.  I then worked with teachers to understand what these trends mean and how to make adjustments in teaching based on these decisions.  In addition, I worked with teachers to understand what the data meant to them in regards to the Pyramid of Interventions and Response to Intervention (RTI).  We worked on scheduling classes to provide Tier 2 interventions for students who demonstrated a need for that after being unsuccessful in Tier 1.
